The Phlebotomy Technician is Ready To Help

Although one of the most important roles of the phlebotomy technician is to obtain quality blood specimens from patients for diagnostic laboratory testing , in many health care facilities their responsibilities also include entering patient data into laboratory computers, transporting specimens, and specimen preparation which may also include performing supervised simple tests. As the phlebotomy technician works directly with the patient, he or she must also act as the “eyes and ears” of the doctor and therefore relay any important information, that was gathered while collecting a blood specimen, to doctors, nurses, or laboratory supervisors. The collected specimens, once analyzed, aid the physician in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of the patient.

The well meaning phlebotomy technician who displays a warm and welcoming attitude and a professional demeanor will also provide additional value to the patient and therefore be a responsible and complimentary asset to any health care team.
